Microsoft is killing a controversial feature introduced in Windows 10 that enabled users to share Wi-Fi login information with contacts, automatically.
When Windows 10 was introduced, a feature called Wi-Fi Sense was borrowed from the mobile operating system used for the Windows Phone to be included into the popular PC operating system. As a feature, it allows users to automatically connect to hotspots and amazingly share users’ Wi-Fi passwords with contacts when they are on the same network.
A simple checkbox enabled the passwords for Wi-Fi networks saved on the user’s PC to be shared with contacts on Skype, Facebook and Outlook.

Cisco’s Talos team has posted a blog warning customers waiting for the new Windows 10 to beware of a spam campaign offering to upgrade to Windows 10 for free. The email, titled “Upgrade to Windows 10 for free,” has an attachment containing ransomware.
“The fact that users have to virtually wait in line to receive this update makes them even more likely to fall victim to this campaign,” Cisco’s Talos team noted in the blog.
The spam emails appear to be from Microsoft and include a “from” address of “[email protected]” But the IP address actually links to a machine in Thailand.Email Appears Legitimate

Chris Beard, CEO of Mozilla, has sent an open letter to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in response to the new user experience in Windows 10. In order to retain Mozilla Firefox as the default browser, the user must go through several more hoops in Windows 10, according to Beard. Beard wrote:
We appreciate that it’s still technically possible to preserve people’s previous settings and defaults, but the design of the whole upgrade experience and the default settings APIs have been changed to make this less obvious and more difficult. It now takes more than twice the number of mouse clicks, scrolling through content and some technical sophistication for people to reassert [...]
Giving away Windows 10 may be proving to be a good strategy as far as getting the software out there. Microsoft reports just two days later that 14 million computers are now running the latest version of Windows. Still, Microsoft is shooting to have Windows 10 installed on a billion devices within three years. From that view, they’ve got a long way to go.
Microsoft is still working to deliver Windows 10 to everyone who requested it, according to a recent blog post. The company is more concerned about establishing a new foothold with its new platform than it is about profiting from Windows 10 directly, at this point.
