Banned Porn Websites Troll Indian Government

It turns out that the Indian government’s recent ban on websites was not specifically about porn. Several other websites including CollegeHumor were also banned. The reason Internet Service Providers were given was that these sites had content which “relates to morality and decency as given in Article 19(2) of the Constitution of India.”

The 857 sites were subsequently banned from being viewed by most, if not all, of the people in India. We use the term “most” assuming that some will have found ways around the bans, such as Virtual Private Networks.

Fast forward to now, and some of the websites are striking back, in a way, trolling the Indian government in legendary fashion. A porn website urged Indians to “vote better next time.”

CollegeHumor was seemingly incensed. For their part, they made up 12 facts about India to demonstrate one reason it might be silly to cut a country off from access to information.

Other banned sites followed, including top tier porn sites and more. The Internet has never been an overly friendly place to censorship.
